The biggest advantage of this is that it never goes sweet or vanillic, while still having Oriental notes. The representative sprayed a few sample on paper and handed me Blue Parfum, but I was instantly captivated by Coco Noir. The base is centered around balsamic frankincense, soft musk, vanilla, and sandalwood accords, and it is underlined by warm and earthy Indonesian patchouli. This all makes this fragrance far too strong and overwhelmimg to me and more like something that a man would wear almost, despite being unisex smelling in my opinion.

Coco Noir is not weird or avant-garde or ostentatiously niche--it's just a beautifully balanced woody amber floral. It's quite confident, and probably better for those who have made it past the big 3-0 and up–though for all you old souls out there, don't let me stop you! A: The base notes consist of frankincense, soft musk, vanilla, sandalwood, and Indonesian patchouli, offering a warm and magnetic finish to the scent. In the opening I definitely get the citrus notes, especially the grapefruit, and in the dry down it's predominantly rose, tonka, and sandalwood with a hint of musk.Couldn't make out individual flowers or any fruit at all, just a general toiletiness, which might have been the geranium. The opening is almost identical to me to Mademoiselle's, a brisk citrus with aldehydes (yes, I know none are listed on here, but many, if not most Chanel perfumes smell as if they contain them regardless). It has that chanelesque atmosphere, a je ne sais quois that screams Chanel, but it is not a blast on your face patchouli/citrus bomb.

This is elegant, aloof, something I imagine Angelina Jolie actually wearing (Mon Guerlain excluded), regal in a Queen Victoria mourning way. Don’t let the little black dress fool you or the gold jewelry so artfully placed lead you to think she is above scandal and a little naughty fun. The frames are made of durable acrylic glass; the acrylic glass is protected on both sides by plastic film. Coco Noir is not dark and mysterious as one might expect from the name and the beautiful black bottle.I disagree with the reviews mentioning bad lasting power, I can smell this on clothes days after I spray it. This isn't something I would reach for on a daily basis, but more so for special occasions or when I need that confidence boost.

I don't always mind that as I'm usually in the mood for something inconspicuous these days, but I can see the lack of projection being disappointing for some. From what I understand the original formulation lasted much longer this is now reformulated not worth the money . The drydown is classic Coco (even more than in Mademoiselle) but the opening … on me it’s a car crash of OG + Mademoiselle + grapefruit and that’s breaking my heart. As far as it smelling like licorice like another reviewer mentioned, that may be what they get but my dry down is a hot cocoa, I am smitten. Please read the full reviews and consider your own needs and preferences before making a purchasing decision.

Citruses are felt all the time, they do not disappear instantly, as is usually the case with the top notes. For example, when you wear a pearl necklace, a red dress, and black shoes, go to the theater, style your hair in a casually French way, or apply red lipstick. And if I did not know that it was an offspring of the house Chanel I would just perceive it as failed dupe for Mademoiselle. It's not meant to attract attention, but it's noticeable enough to give its wearer a strong boost of confidence.Coco Noir lacks memorability and for me this is unforgivable when it comes to perfume - the death penalty actually. That's not to say this is bad, but it's just not as deep and alluring as I was imagining as per other people's descriptions. It’s luscious on my skin, the opening very fresh and citrusy and then settling into a warm woody scent that blankets me. Its drydown has an almost chewy, sweet tobacco resinous smell that still stays dry and never cloying. The sillage is big at first spray - once on the chest (while in the restroom at the office) is enough to give you a cloud of Coco Noir - rose and bergamot at beginning, segueing into sandalwood, patchouli, vanilla and barely a hint of tonka.
