Description

Lord Loss is seen when Grubbs Grady , Kernel Fleck, Bec McConn, Dervish Grady, and Meera Flame temporarily destroy Death's or The Shadow's body. Grubbs has to deal with the possibility of his Uncle being secretly a werewolf, on top of dealing with the possibility that the things that killed his parents are still looming over him.

Did Shan think teens couldn't handle reading a novel at breakneck speed and needed some sort of slow place where they could catch their breath? But shortly after Grubbs' sole surviving adult family member arranges for Grubbs' release from observation, the narrative completely stalls and my interest took a sharp nosedive. However, he did not wish any of the group that destroyed the tunnel to live (although Bran survived). One night, he finds the mutilated bodies of his family and encounters Lord Loss, a gruesome human-like demon who sets his two familiars, Vein and Artery, on Grubbs. Lord Loss is an ancient demon who feeds off the sorrow of humanity, and because of this, he has a morbid love of the human race.I started this series after reading "Darren Shan Saga" and while I expected something different and distinct, I wasn't expecting so much originality and uniqueness. No matter what age this book will be scary, mainly because Darren Shan doesn't shy away from topics that others might not deem appropriate for children. Lord Loss is next featured when Grubbs, Kernel, Kirilli Kovacs, Timas Brauss, Shark and the werewolf nicknamed 'Moe' enter his world to escape the demon master of the previous world. It is more of a middle-grade book so it's obviously written for a younger audience and the writing style reflects that. It's as if the author was deliberately trying to slow the pace of this book, and I can't think of a single reason why he would want to do so.

All the characters were well done and quite relatable, it felt they had depth and room for development. He is described as the cruelest character in the books, and enjoys bringing slow and painful deaths upon humans. Lord Loss makes no apperance, he is only mentioned, this is the only one where he does not show up at all, though he does send Juni Swan.Grubbs lies to Bill-E, telling him that Dervish used a calming spell to try to cure his lycanthropy. The death of Grubb’s friend Loch around book 3 and Bill-E’s involvement was a haunting, horrifying piece of writing and Bill-E’s death several books later as a result was a brilliant example of a story tying together while also being a deeply moving moment In keeping with the traditions of epic fantasy 2 new POV characters are introduced.

Darren Shan (born July 2, 1972 in London, England) is the pen name of the Irish author Darren O'Shaughnessy, as well as the name of the protagonist of his book series The Saga of Darren Shan, also known as The Cirque Du Freak Series in the United States. Bill-E tells Grubbs of his belief that Dervish may actually be his father, given how close they were before then, but tells Grubbs to keep it a secret from him, which he agrees.Having read The Saga years ago and loved the series I tried Lord Loss but couldn’t go beyond the first few chapters. But after some days his sis comes in and gifts him something, says something good and informs him that his punishment has come to an end. The first novel in a chilling new series by Darren Shan, author of the New York Times bestselling Cirque Du Freak series, will keep readers turning page after horrifying page. Then came The Thin Executioner, a one-off fantasy novel, which Darren has cited as his favourite out of all his books.

Lord Loss follows Grubbs Grady, a teenage boy who stumbles upon the remains of his family who have been brutally murdered by demonic beings. They are not mouthpieces to tell kids what the author believes is wrong with the real world now, like so many YA books are right now. He loves to cause as much pain, both mental and physical, as he can and needs pain the way a human needs food and drink. I still remember a particular scene where the heroes discover the remains of a small band of humans had been trapped by demons in a shrine in the middle of a forest.Lord Loss battles Kirilli, Shark and Moe but is described as 'playfully slapping them away' and seen to be toying with them, as he is too powerful on his home world.
